Lavasa is India's first planned hill city being developed by HCC (Hindustan Construction Company). On a normal traffic day, it takes around 3 hours to reach Lavasa from New Bombay. From Chandni Chowk (Pune), it takes around one hour to reach Lavasa. It is around an hour and a half drive from Pune International airport.

In the education space, Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL), Switzerland is bringing in their famed hospitality school with the first intake planned for 2009. Symbiosis, Pune and Christ University, Bangalore, both deemed universities, are also setting up campuses in Lavasa. NSHM – Knowledge Campus will set up India's first Retail, Media & Thinking Management University at Lavasa. Institute of International Business Relations (IBR), the premier business school in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and a part of the University of Berlin, is also setting up its campus at Lavasa.
